The contribution of MSMEs to socio-economic development in the country cannot be overemphasised. Their contribution to employment creation, social upliftment and contribution to GDP has been globally acknowledged. In this respect, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Corporation (SMEDCO) / (Corporation) was founded in terms of the SMEs Act, Chapter 24:12 formerly SEDCO Act, No.16 of 1983 (now referred to as the ACT) to facilitate the establishment and growth of MSMEs in the country. To achieve this mandate, the Corporation engages in a number of activities and programmes that centre on MSMEs development, such as, provision of financial assistance, accommodation facilities and business support services.
Since inception, the Corporation has gained wealth of experience in terms of understanding the MSME ecosystem in the country and the peculiar needs of different MSMEs. The Corporation is poised to become the centre of excellence in the provision of SME development solutions.
